Let’s not forget that Shimon Peres was one of the key figures behind the Suez Crisis, the Israeli invasion of Egypt in 1956. He was an early supporter of settlements on the West Bank. As mentioned, he worked to weaken the non-proliferation treaty by making Israel the first nuclear power outside it. He did soften with age, but he worked for war a long time before he worked for peace.
