This is a test to see who is a true follower. It’s like when The Party announces two plus two equals five.
To be fair, Il Douche doesn’t always lie. More often he just bullsh*ts, and does a lot of gaslighting, too.
Nothing so sophisticated. More like when a Nigerian scammer sends out an e-mail so riddled with ridiculous grammar and spelling errors that it self-identifies the suckers.
“And everyone knows we wouldn’t have won the war without help from TRex.”
“No. I don’t believe the President has lied.” Sorry, Kayleigh, I disagree with your beliefs.
Ha ha ha ha ha etc.
I remember this from the historical archives.
And they’ve increased the chocolate ration!
“I’m lying RIGHT NOW!”
Exactly - it’s not “lying” if you don’t know (or care) what the truth is! And since apparently he is so cognitively impaired he can’t retain/understand facts, even when he is given correct information, and says something contrary, it’s still not a lie!
I keep saying - the entire Trump presidency is like that initial, badly written, Nigerian scam email.
The most common praise you hear from Biff’s supporters – ardent or lukewarm – is “at least we finally have a President who speaks his mind without worrying about offending anyone”.* Unsophisticated and stupid people often confuse “direct and uncensored” with “true and accurate”. This spokesbot, like the ones before her, is playing to that category error.
[* to be fair, this situation is also the result of 40 years of intentional and unintentional obfuscation and weasel words and lawyerly language from technocratic neoliberal officials from both parties, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s grounded in an error]
I mean, lots of things he says sound like lies, but is he a liar in his heart? Who can tell?
A sort of They Live glasses to view the president through is to remind yourself he’s a real estate guy. Not just regular real estate, but often properties before they exist. This means convincing you to trust him (“Believe me”) and that what you are getting is a great deal (“The best”). It means playing to whatever audience is in front of him. Saying whatever they want to hear so him can close the deal. Making them feel like part of a select group he chose. Listing accomplishments (real or not) to gain credibility.
And if later things don’t match what he was selling, well that’s because of someone else. And don’t worry, there’s an even better deal you can get in on now.
Exactly. Anyone with a whit of intelligence and education who lived in NYC between 1980 and 2016 knew exactly what kind of “businessman” this narcissistic grifter was.
If Trump tells his followers that he lies all the time, his followers will applaud him for the honesty and forthrightness and guts it takes to tell the truth about something like that. And they will come away more convinced than ever that he is a straight shooter and an honorable man.
I’m genuinely curious to know what the break even point is here. How much money does it take in salary to knowingly go on television and push this garbage when you probably know most of the people who know you, grew up with you, or even do general business with you know you’re simply a mouthpiece?
It really doesn’t matter what anyone believes. He has lied more than all other presidents combined.
Off the top of my head, I’d guess at least $250k/annum plus option points in one of the side scams and some platinum benefits and perks. The younger, true-believer fascists like Stephen Miller will forego the equity slice.
ETA: @simonize makes an excellent point below about motivations other than money.
They’re not lies!
They’re the best truths.
