Sinead O'Connor converted to Islam and her name is now Shuhada'

But what if it turns out that God really likes people who have the courage of their convictions (even if they’re wrong), and can’t stand hypocrites, sycophants and smart-arses?

i just hope she finds the peace she’s been looking for. she’s had such a hard time of it for so long now.

If it isn’t OK for her to judge everyone else then it isn’t right for us to judge her for her choice either.

I don’t think she has made an _intelligent _ choice in this but I’m not going to mock her for it.

Indeed, that is one of my queries to theists. Theists may claim to know god is real because they can feel god, but they have no way to tell if that god is telling the truth in the bible or if that god is a trickster god and the bible is just a the world’s greatest gullibility test. For a mere mortal to claim to be able to tell the difference between a sincere god and a trickster god is sheer hubris (well, as is the claim to be able to tell the difference between god and “the great deceiver,” who has god-like powers. He wouldn’t be a “great deceiver” if he was easier to detect than an ordinary mortal con artist… :-/ )

Uhm, you just judged her choice. Judging != mocking.

Stating I disagree with her decision is not mocking.
Nor does it directly count as judging.

Not that I give a shit if you judge her, I just think it is both unfair and a waste of time. That’s a judgement, but it still isn’t mockery.

I agree. You are arguing against something I never said.

“!=” means “does not equal”. I was pointing out that you were judging her, but that is ok because judging her does not equal mocking her.

Fair enough - assumed that weird symbol was a typo. Carry on.

Damn, learned something in religious thread…

I should just have written it out. BB is sufficiently geeky I didn’t think of the fact that “!=” could be obscure even though it’s relatively common in programing, enough so that a non-coder like myself knows it from forums like BB and Slashdot.

No problem.
I haven’t coded for 30 years; I’m the other kind of geek/nerd this place has XD

I think it might have something to do with the central role of theology in Muslim societies. Sharia judges are essentially theologians, for example. So of course if you are in to theology, Islam is the place to be.

Unfortunately it also suggests that Islam attracts people with psychological issues.

Sure, and Mohammed isn’t Allah.

she’s been rather vindicated now.

No argument from me, I’m Jewish and my people have been the target of Papal nastiness for millennia. I had no beef with O’Conner at the time. However, it would have been unseemly for me to do what O’Conner did. Chief Rabbi, sure, I could have torn up his photo. (I think the artichoke lobby has been considering that this year.)

All I’m saying is, now that she’s converted, it gives her new options.
