And your argument would make more sense if smokers were the only COVID patients to end up in the hospital. Someone working an essential job that exposes them to the public like a transit operator, doctor, EMT, teacher, whatever is at much higher risk of hospitalization because they’re at higher risk of contracting the virus. Someone whose only risk factor is that they’re a smoker is, overall, a lower risk.

The UF thing is a bit dispiriting, but at least the article said that students haven’t used it that way.
