Holy shit. Never realised how much the Star Wars model designs were based on reality. That looks like one of the two-legged (AT-ST) walkers.

I can’t say that I know, but my wild-ass-guess would be that the energy loss in driving large metal screws around is much greater than for tires, or even tank-treads. Not to mention the engine would need to be maxing out on torque and less able to take advantage of higher horsepower.

This may or may not be related.

Yes, it’s true. File the giant motor on huge hollow screws under “Flying Car, Want” along with the jetpack, army of murderous robots, and one of those cybernetic lions from Voltron.

Yeah, I’m also not sure that’s the reason, but it’s certainly a good guess.
