Thanks, that’s interesting
I got addicted to that stuff when I was in India a few years back… tasty!
I thought the marketing department made some assumptions based on 5 million tries of Raspberry Coke per year. Maybe it was 4 million people trying it and deciding it was awful, and another 1/2 million who weren’t sure and gave it a second go.
I tried too hard drinking some up and ended up certain it tasted like Coke with rotted strawberries in it. Very fine natural flavor if you do like the taste of thoroughly infected strawberries. Who here plunked down $630 for a can of cannabis flavor terpenes though, eh?
In other news, I got dysgeusea this year, so tasting salt instead of sweet is all I got for now. Gotta…win a mixology bar with terpene flavors in contests with that or sup’m. Jodorowsky’s Coca-Cola!
When is Tomato Coke coming out? Spoiled Bloody Mary anyone?
Big fan of coconut lacroix
The cans won’t last that long. We had an unopened 12-pack of Diet Coke cans spontaneously leak about half of the contents. They were about 9 months past the “best if used by” date.
On the plus side, calling the company resulted in them sending us two coupons worth any pack of Coke products.
Spices can be made from fruits.
Example: Sumac is made from the fruits of the Sumac plant.
Allspice is made from a berry as well.
And when people say something is or isn’t “spicy” they seem to mean chillies (or pepper) rather than other spice.
Spice is a distinct culinary category even if it overlaps with botanical fruits, though. There should really be another categorization based on the flavor compounds instead of just the plant structure, except flavor is complex. (I want to say spices have mostly phenols like in allspice, terpenoids like in cardamom, or mustard oils like in capers, instead of esters like in apples and bananas…but raspberry ketone does kind of mess that up.)
Still better then anosmia…
I had that about 12 years ago before all the cool kids were doing it.
I probably would have tried this eventually and been mad it was raspberry instead of some sort of actual spice.
I have on occasion opened up a bottle of regular coke and dropped in a large quantity of chopped ginger (watch out it foams up!), let it infuse for a day. LOVE IT. That would make a great “spiced” coke. But they would probably screw it up by not putting enough ginger.
