They’ve been developing the arm since 2016 but I guess the news this week is that it’s finally commercially available. For anybody out there who was planning on dropping $75,000 on a Spot of their own – or those who already have.

I was hoping it would wheel away the handtruck. Maybe next year.

I would call it a Gripping Arm.

That snake mouth thing at the front is creeping me out.

I wonder if digging a hole and dropping the plant in is a reference to Silent Running?

Right now its a more practical robot than TARS.

Bipedal movement has been a challenge for robotics, hence many bots
are wheeled or tracked. Boston Dynamics seems to have mastered quadrupedal
movement. The manipulator arm is a logical follow on. Will they end up with a additional
arm affixed to a pivoting trunk and thus produce a Centaur ?

Has Boston Dymanics created anything that isn’t a directly taken from something you shoot at in Half Life 2?

Can it reach out and touch faith?

But does it come with the bucket or laundry basket attachment? For that price, I’d hope you get both!

It’s pretty close to the invaders in War of the Worlds (the recent one with Gabriel Byrne).

Just wait until they give robot cats opposable thumbs.

/r/rule34/ sincerely hopes so!

If you enjoyed that in Half Life 2, I have some good news about 2025…

When the green lights are glowing, you’re safe… but when they turn red…

Those who’ve never seen SR may be interested in knowing what else got dropped into hole by a robot.

Can’t imagine Boston Dynamics wanting to draw attention to that potential application at this point.
