Sure is fun identifying their samples too. And of course influences.
On that note I recently stumbled Rage Against the Machine’s debut concert, good ol 1991, same era. I wasn’t a Rage fan until seeing this:
Stick through the intro, which of course became their biggest hit, but didn’t have words yet. It’s like they sprouted to this mostly unappreciative random college audience fully formed. To be headlining Coachella a year or two later with the exact same act. And for fans of classic hip hop, can spot the influences left and right, especially PE, but lots of others from the era. Same as the Beasties.
