there is Tolkein and that group of middle-class Christian fantasists who constantly sing the praises of bourgeois virtues and whose villains are thinly disguised working class agitators – fear of the Mob permeates their rural romances.

I recently reread the Lord of the Rings books. I now believe that when Samwise Gamgee got back to The Shire he joined Ukip (or the Middle Earth equivalent).

Hey, captain strange
Wont you be my lover
Youre the best thing
That I’ve ever discovered
Flash gordons left me
Hes gone to the stars
An evil darth vader
Has me banished to mars

Tell me, captain strange
Do you feel my devotion
Or are you like a droid
Devoid of emotion
Encounters one and two
Are not enough for me
What my body needs
Is close encounter three

I should point out that what she really wants is an encounter of the seventh kind.

Good news!

Evil socialist mastermind Bernie Sanders is probably NOT (I repeat, is probably NOT) going to kill millions of people, perhaps.

Thank supply-side Jesus.

How is the Trump-pinata app different from the same app featuring prominent female game developers?

Trump actually deserves to be beat with a clue bat?

The Trumpinata seems to be especially disturbing to people named after events in Norse mythology?

The existence of the app seems especially disturbing considering the other facts of the case:

  1. Trump has been forced out of his home by anonymous threats to use him as a piñata
  2. Trump’s Secret Service protective detail is very ill-equipped to protect him from piñata-related beatings
  3. Many academics have described rich-guy-piñata-beatings as being at an “epidemic” level in America, with nearly one in five rich guys having been used as piñatas

The Trump-pinata is punching up, not punching down - but it’s still encouraging the same sort of culture of carefree, la-di-da violent behavior-as-norm.

But, if you think that the culture is totes cool, and it’s only specific extrusions of that culture that need to be fixed – well, then, go for it.

Okay. Let me add I would never ever want do that in real life or take joy at that kind of thing in real life. Yes I have a pretty grim sense of humor and this appeals to it. It also looks like it would be fun for about 2 minutes as well then get deleted.

I love table top wargames but get the creeps at the idea of it ever being real people. Crushing the enemy is lots of fun when the only consequence is the toys go back in the box till the next game.

I finally got to play Kill Doctor Lucky a few weeks ago and it was wonderful fun trying to sneak around the mansion and bump off Doctor Lucky by creative means. One of the most fun games I have played recently. That does not mean I want to actually sneak around a mansion and kill a real person with a well timed cannon shot.

My apologies. I was going to write a serious response, but I honestly had no idea if you were being serious or not - a problem of the internet.

I really do think it’s totally different. I’m currently explaining that difference to someone who has come to the original thread to say this is all about us hating white males. Pinatas of political figures aren’t a new thing in Mexican culture, and Trump has made himself the kind of political figure who is subject to this kind of treatment. I don’t think that pinata effigies are at all the same as the Sarkeesian violence simulator, and I don’t think that this game - which clearly simulates a pinata and not Trump himself - is anything like that. The Sarkeesian violence simulator game was a targeted threat intended to terrorize its target. This is just more publicity for Trump’s presidential bid.

I think people who run for president had better be ready to be lambasted, made to look terrible in political cartoons, and even burned in effigy. The secret service will look into whether it is a serious threat and take steps if it is. I think that right-wing extremist politicians like to try to make the case that criticism of them is equivalent to oppression of the groups they seek to oppress, but criticism and making fun of politicians is part of democracy. You sign up for it in a way that women on the internet don’t (or shouldn’t have to).

It seems like the game struck you in a very different way than it did me. If someone made a game of my little avatar being beaten bloody that would make me feel very different than if someone made a game of my little avatar being hit and exploding into candy. They just mean totally different things to me. Again, I’m sorry I read your initial question wrong.

There was some discussion in this thread about the perils of black market drug purchases, especially with regard to quality. If you buy acid, it might not be acid, it might be something else, etc.

My question is, how can this be? Being a black market, the drug market happens outside the bounds of government regulation, so shouldn’t the quality of the products be very high? Isn’t that how the market works?

I mean, what rational actor would harm their own customer base with dangerous substitutes - it seems very short sighted to do so. And surely if someone did sell a harmful alternative to acid then they would find themselves without customers as more responsible merchants took up the market share.

I understand that making drugs illegal is going to drastically inflate the price - sellers should be increasing their price by (chance of conviction per unit) × (average years sentenced) × (their wages for one year) and buying some insurance in case they are arrested before they are liquid enough to float a prison term; it is only rational for them to pass that cost along to the buyer.

But other than those inflated costs, why wouldn’t the drug market function efficiently? Does anyone have any theories?

I think it’s due to the lack of venture-capital funding. If it were possible for VC’s to legally inject big money to disrupt the existing drug market, then wonderful things like soylent could be possible.
