I’m no fan of late-stage capitalism mega-mergers but the reality is that neither Sprint nor T-Mobile as they stand today can remain viable for much longer on their own. Operating redundant, overlapping nationwide cellular networks while fighting off intense competition from the AT&T and Verizon duopoly means lots and lots of cash going out the door every day.
The issue is not whether we should allow Sprint and T-Mobile to merge but rather why we aren’t talking about breaking up behemoths like AT&T and Verizon instead.
Merge them all and nationalize, I say.
