What a backhanded slap.
Yeah something tells me that when these people are out there living their normal life they’re not going to behave any different in front of their caucasian pals. If that’s the case are they really learning anything? This just reads as reducing black women into exotic/taboo fetish symbols.
Yeah, those were the words I was looking for: “Reduced to taboo fetish items.”
Wow.
For what it’s worth, at least one of Velvet’s clients took the lessons to heart and started an organization for Black single mothers in the area. That’s only one client out of who knows how many.
Unfortunately, the story has a tragic end to it, which makes one wonder if the domme or the client base had the bigger impact.
I don’t really want to sign up even if its free. In general terms what was the tragic end? If you want you can put a spoiler tag if others want to read it themselves. If you’d rather not indulge me that’s ok too
There wasn’t a lot of detail shared about what happened. Earlier this year Velvet announced on Twitter their divorce and suspension of dominatrix activities, friends noted trouble with Velvet’s mental health, Velvet announced the death of their cat on Instagram, and the day after that Velvet’s body was discovered with signs making it clear it was suicide. This is after having become somewhat of a local celebrity.
(I signed up to read the story using a throwaway account. It’s a mailing list subscription.)
Yeah, I need to make plans for bodies to be discovered multiple times with a succession of taunts (and successively better TSA status; baggage, flightable, must fly, can fly anything, OMG Liberace but for Flight.) Thanks for the unvarnishing. (Postdoc advising is hard to come by! Let’s go to the library!)
That’s tragic indeed, but thanks for the summary.
