But it seems like the #1 thing these companies needed from Elon was his money. And #2 was some good PR, but now they are getting the opposite from him.

It was linked in another Musk thread, but in November (IIRC) a former SpaceX intern wrote that when he was there executives openly talked about the need to manage Musk, which meant steering him to do what they wanted and shielding staff from his irrational demands. They considered him to be valuable for hype and money but not somebody who could be allowed any real control over the business.
