Texas: 12-y-o Sikh kid arrested for "terrorism" over solar charger

Wish Texans knew how much they had in common with the Sikhs. Like Texans and the American Army, they make up a disproportionate % of the Indian military.

In Malaysia its actually a pretty standard trope to have an old grizzled Sikh with a weapon on the front gate of resorts and gated communities.

But also why didn’t somebody from the school (a teacher or a fellow student) contact the boy’s parents?

It’s one of those multivalent ur-stupidities that seem to occur most often in administrators and law enforcement. “If he were actually Muslim, you’d just be a racist profiling dumbfuck like those idiots who dragged Ahmed Mohamed out of his school, but this kid isn’t even Muslim, which makes you even more racist, and even more of a dumbfuck. You’re more evil and wrong than someone who is already evil and wrong!”

My advice to this young man? Sue them. For millions. This is utterly unbelievable.

Well I could have been more polite about it, but then I don’t know of any polite words I can think of with this.

Arlington cops. A distinction without a difference? Maybe, but it couldn’t hurt to get the details right.

A bully in class thought it would be funny to accuse him of having a bomb, and so the principal, without any questioning, interrogation, or notification to his parents, called the police.

Is this different from SWATting?

Exactly! Isn’t filing or making a false report a felony?

After “In Texas” I knew what the ending was going to be. I cannot wait for ignorant southern states like Texas to secede. They want it; we want it. What’s the delay?

When do we realize that hysterical overreaction actually makes us less prepared, not more? Terrorists could literally shut down the country with a few dozen phony bomb threats.

they’re doing this kind of thing to let people know whose in charge. there are alot more brown southeast asian people in dallas than you would think, and lots of them are decently middle class enough to be threatening/unpleasant to the power structure. plus police have the cover of zero tolerance, i guess, because even when i was in middle school 15 years ago my friend was nearly expelled over having a metal spoon (he only got suspended for a week). so i think legally they can pull this kind of thing with 100% impunity.

the school he was taken from is right in the middle of the center of arlington. just about the worst place to have texas authorities swarm down on you under suspicion of terrorism, he must be pretty strong willed to have gone through that… experience… without having a heart attack with his heart condition.

I guess not if you’re white and the false report is about someone unwhite.

There are approximately 250,000 Sikhs in the U.S. This is less than 1/10th of 1% of our population, and yet at least once a month there is yet another hate crime against them that makes it to the national news. Makes me wonder how many actual Muslims are also the victims of hate-based violence, since the only reason these stories are broadcast seems to be because – whoops – the victims weren’t Muslim after all. So how many scenarios like this are happening across the country to Muslim kids, and not being covered by the news because “of course” they deserve it, being Muslim and all?

The Dept. of Justice should consider suspending all federal grant payments to law enforcement agencies in Texas pending investigation of incompetent and racially discriminatory criminal investigations. If there are adverse findings, then Texas should repay part or all misallocated federal funds received in the 2014/15 fiscal year.

There was an incident where I live and there is scuttlebutt that there’s more going on that hasn’t reached national attention, but in fairness if every hate crime where I lived reached national attention then there wouldn’t be room for much else in the news.

It’s actually not a bad community at all, but it’s tiny and liberal and an idiosyncrasy landlocked by pretty conservative areas.

Well, of course he’s a terrorist. Don’t you know that solar panels suck up the sun, disrupt photosynthesis, and stop crops from growing?
