Especially those with privilege. Those are the ones who are “expected” to stand aside, since they are not at risk. We need to not be Niemöller. If anything is to be learned from his poem, it’s that we desperately need to not be him, we need to stand up at the very first “They came for the trans, I was not trans, but I opposed them on principle. They came for women, I was not a woman, but i stood up to them because it was the right thing to do.” And so on. It’s the only way to get out of this more-or-less OK.
