Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's popularity is plunging in new poll

That’d be the other end of it. The Texans I know best are people who got out.

I grew up in (and currently live in) a pretty rural, hugely segregated, deep red area in an otherwise blue state. To be frank, decent people leave.

It also depends on what issue we’re considering the “progressive” vs “conservative” side of.

It’s the dang cruelty that I can’t stand.

This.
And yes.
Thank you!

and though I try hard to avoid posting a WaPo link…

ETA:

If voting is supposed to be so useless and pointless, why are Texas Republicans working so hard to add more obstacles to full voter participation in elections?

Ding ding ding!

(hoping that link to Democracy Now! washes the taste of that WaPo link out)

From the people I spoke to, taking a dislike to outsiders because they’re outsiders.

Which do you think causes the other? Because, frankly, I find it hard to believe that vote suppression would be on net unpopular in Texas.

France is on the other side of the world from the Pacific, whereas Australia at least pretends to be a separate country from the UK

If one were to succeed in convincing Americans that this was important, we’d be more likely to decide all those islands need to be liberated from colonialism, not secured for their rightful European overlords

This list only shows there is no bottom to the FDC cesspool of candidates, but Taliban Dan has his sights set on being a Senator, & may well primary Cancun Cruz. Abbott, of course, has delusions of being POTUS, but is being primaried by some even farther RWNJs.
Better hope Beto wins [provided he runs].

They have an independence referendum in December. No reason to send the drones just yet. Although the Hawaii argument is tenuous at best

i agree with most of your points. i’ve made many comments regarding texas politics over the years. right now i’ve been going through four cycles of chemo for testicular cancer and i have follow-up treatments to come, all of which is to say i’ve just had little time or energy to devote here.

even the most rural backwaters have liberals. i hail from a town of 3000 in a county of less than 10,000.

Wishing you the best and a good recovery from a fellow Texan liberal!

That’s the French claim, yes.

From 2013, so, it’s probably out of date.

Wow, quite the nick you’ve given him! My dad just calls him “idiot killer”, referring both to the FL gov and those who follow his dictates to the grave.

I have family who have walked miles and miles in your particular shoes. I hear you.

Hoping you’re surrounded by loving, solid people and supported by friends and allies.

Hang in there, man.
Please keep breathing.

Thank you for your work here in Texas. I am grateful for every. single. human. working for a better, saner world.

Good luck and godspeed.

I was arguing that native Texans are more progressive and we get the joy of importing the wing-nuts from other places like a grift-sponge (so there’s no way I’m shading Georgia following their commendable progress). In no way was I trying to imply that West’s reflective of Georgia, just that he isn’t reflective of Texas, as frequently happens with GOP leadership, here.

I don’t know where the disconnect is, but I’m 100% of the opinion that Texas is viably purple if we can break the gerrymandering / suppression ratchet.

My point is only that Texas is not unique in that. It’s true for both of our states because we have large, increasingly diverse populations that see culture wars as dragging down economic and social development. :woman_shrugging: And other southern states as well (NC, VA). The culture wars and voter suppression are the only tactics the GOP has to retain their voting population.

thanks for the encouragement and support. i remain optimistic despite the struggle.

i guess that could apply both to my personal situation as well as that vis a vis the republican death cult.
