US elections are in a weird space where states have a very high amount of latitude in how they run elections and the federal government rarely intervenes. It’s one of those things that seems like a good idea in theory but in practice it makes elections a complete clusterfuck. If anything the federal government is doing less policing thanks to SCOTUS kneecapping various voting rights laws in recent years with completely predictable results.
