Texas [Now] ex-Mayor Tells Freezing Residents "I’m sick and tired of people looking for a damn handout!” and “Only the strong will survive and the weak will [perish].”

The latest entry in the very crowded “Texas Dystopia Contest” is the mayor of Colorado City, Texas who, when pressed about how the local government might help residents who are freezing to death, wrote in a since-deleted Facebook post:

"I’m sick and tired of people looking for a damn handout!”

“The City and County, along with power providers or any other service owes you NOTHING!" he said while urging residents to “step up and come up with a game plan” for acquiring power or heat.

“Only the strong will survive and the weak will [perish],” he added.

He has since resigned. While not denying that he wrote those words, he did claim that much of what he wrote was “taken out of context.”

Why correct his spelling? He wrote, “Only the strong will survive and the weak will parish

Also, the clown quit his job the minute it got tough and continues to blame others.

Total shithead.

Ah. I was quoting the article.

Immortan Joe’s public addresses were downright compassionate by comparison.

Not sure what could possibly sound any worse by being taken out of context!

The only “socialism” I see here is the ex-Mayor collecting a salary for doing absolutely nothing.

Lol this guy sounds like a goddamn sith lord.

“the strong will survive, the weak will perish! Those pathetic enough to beg for help do not deserve to live.”

So, um, Mr. Mayor what exactly would you say you do here?

This, like “I was just joking”, are 100% reliable indicators that the speaker is playing at being a Schrodinger’s Asshole.

I’m sure he also waxes nostalgic for the good old pioneer days, when folks got together to harvest the crops and raise barns, and neighbors looked out for each other. No socialist freeloaders then.

edit: /s /s /s just in case.

They really don’t understand that their “good old boy” networks and political machines are socialism, do they? It’s sad that he thinks someone like him actually earned his position.

I assume there is a missing /s?

Mutual aid is the opposite of the social darwinism that Boyd favours though

I thought that would be obvious, but I added one just in case.

It should be, but even here I come across people who think that it can’t be socialism if it isn’t organised by the government.

Was the “context” that he had a brief moment toward the end of saying that there are people who are truly needy and his category of “freeloaders” is ruining it for them? That is some weak-sauce context, given the absolute barbarity of the rest of the post.

The definition of Socialism has just been expanded to include “During a freak act of gawd no one was prepared for (government or private individual) individuals weren’t prepared, and expect help from a system of pooled resources designed for just such an occurrence.”

The whole thing reeks of “If you aren’t a full-blown prepper, libertarian Jesus wants you to freeze to death.” When he says “if you don’t have water go get some, you need to have the tool, etc…” that is really a hairs-breadth of deniability from telling people to strap up and start faction wars over scarce resources…
