RFC 1149? (implementation)

This should all come off nicely.

  • We had a baked brie earlier for a brunch/snack. (Store-bought. Don’t judge me!)
  • Multi-grain bread was shaped and in final rising - went in the oven about 2:10 to be out just before we sit down to eat at 3:00. I might throw last night’s loaf in there for a few to freshen it up.
  • Onions sauted until almost caramelized, added to soup, adjusted the seasoning.
  • Bread pudding and apple cobbler baking in the oven - I want them to finish about 15 minutes after we start eating, so they’re just cooling off when we’re ready for dessert.
  • Vanilla sauce made, nice and custardy.
  • I’m inventing a dried fruit compote with Irish whiskey to put over the pudding, as well as the vanilla sauce.

Update: the bread got a little black on the top, darn. That’s from trying to bake multiple things at once when our oven heats completely unevenly. Oh well, should still be good.

That looks perfect. BTW, I used some of your smoked hab on the turkey legs
#and it was amazing.

I lied. I had butter chicken, palak gorsht, chicken tikka biryani and butter naan. All is right with the world. Scuze me while I go pass out.

It all turned out great. The bread was fine apart from the very peaks of the boule.

The combo of the tangy fruit compote * with the vanilla sauce on the bread pudding was particularly good for a last minute idea. We never even remembered the ice cream, which is good because nobody had enough room for all the dessert they wanted as it was.

[*] Dried apricots, dried cherries, golden raisins, fresh squeezed lemon juice, honey, water, and 1/4 cup Jameson’s.

One of the young chaps, to my amazement said the following:

  • I only like the bacon and sweet corn
  • mashed taters aren’t good
  • I only like meat on the bone
  • blue cheese is awesome

I love this child.

Well I was about to order an actual turkey dinner where we finally settled on for food but the person next to us had a huge plate of nachos that looked really good. Since it has been awhile since I had some I ordered that. It was very tasty indeed!

OMG. I’ve never just boiled an onion and I love the things. My family would walk away, but I think I need to try this sometime soon!!!

My attempt at formality:

@japhroaig: I totally made that spreadsheet, by the way. Everyone was very amused.

This year I didn’t spreadsheet, I just stuck a list on the wall. Next year I’m getting American Chinese

Waiting at the airport, surrounded by a faint odorous cloud, I realized pea soup might not have been the best family dinner choice prior to a 5 hour plane flight. Sorry, fellow travelers!

Physical altercations were threatened over these at my family gatherings.
Recommend.

I will have to make some soon. I’m fortunate that my family won’t fight me for them, as they both hate onions, generally speaking. I’ll have them all to myself! Muwahahahaha!

Guess what today is? It is the second day of gluttony in our family. Racks of lamb, Asiago potato stacks, corn bread, quinoa salad, smashed mint peas, and lemon curd meringue cake. But I did start the day off with a fat smoked turkey sandwich for breaky.
