In other words, AI is how we get to The Purge.
Nothing so hands-on, I’d bet. More likely they’d hold the key to the AI and make sure life is that easy only for the few, until all that is left were the few.
Isn’t it a bit rich for the girlfriend to one of the richest people in the world’s to be banging the drum on communism?
Like, if he redistributed his wealth to people instead of to space travel (also known as neocolonialism for the modern white man), seems like there could be some big benefits for society as a whole.
I think that it’s pretty on the ball that she confuses techno-utopianism with Communism.
They probably think the 20th century soviet union version is the only version…
I like that she has a direct line to ‘Communists’ via TikTok. You just hop on the horn and yell:
‘Heyo! Commies! Lets have us a chat!’
and they magically appear like unicorns.
I would think that all unicorns would be socialists but red communist unicorns are interesting.
Grimes doesn’t understand communist principles.
Which shouldn’t be much of a surprise.
Because she is Grimes.
How about a Democratic socialist ON a unicorn?
I dunno… assuming AIs would be a benevolent force for good who focused their godlike powers on keeping all humans free from want and suffering is really no less far-fetched than assuming AIs would become a malevolent force bent on exterminating all human life.
Both scenarios have led to some interesting sci-fi premises but I suspect the reality is that, like most technologies, AI will be a force that enables good and evil alike depending on how humans end up employing it.
That’s why we should eat them.
Benevolent? You haven’t read about Meatfucker yet?
thank you , i feel less bad now !
My computer is self-aware. It knows its CPU is at 64° Celsius and it should turn the fan up to keep from getting too hot. Words and phrases like “consciousness” and “self awareness” get thrown around as if they even mean anything beyond just, “Is this inanimate thing like me somehow?”
Wow I’d forgotten all about IO9 until you mentioned it. I used to read daily, then just stopped and don’t remember why.
It’s not as good without Annalee Newitz and Charlie Jane Anders, honestly. I still read it, but it’s not the same…
I just noticed the other day that it doesn’t even exist anymore. When they scrapped it out to Univision, they joined it with Gizmodo as io9.Gizmodo.com. Now it’s basically just a tag running off of the fumes of Giz’s iPhone 4 notoriety (Giz is virtually unrecognizable as well). That must have changed recently as it’s still a site I check daily out of habit. RIP io9, but as you say, it’s been dead since the founders left.
