At one point the turtle shell vehicles were to feature Crush’s head, tail, and fins, but Shull says that a “crash detection” simulation tool indicated that these extremities would not make it through the turbulent ride, so they were removed.

I didn’t watch the video, but was this “simulation tool” just a vehicle profile made out of foam core, then sent through the ride to see if it comes back unscathed? That’s what’s been used most often in my experience. (At least to confirm that the modeling was correct, if nothing else.)
