I can’t find it now, but I’m pretty sure the bed design was initially conceived to reduce overall waste from Olympic Village. It was a thing well before COVID 19 rattled our world.
Besides, I mean, who needs a bed to get it on? These are the fittest people in the world. Surrounded by gym equipment. I’m sure any doorway, hall, sand pit…the landing pad for the high jump seems attractive…I bet you need to make reservations for that

Agreed, I’ve never figured it out. I went to a non-denominational xian college in the Bible Belt, and I remember once I was complaining about all the litter left behind by some revival type thing on campus, and how if we loved “the creator” shouldn’t we respect “the creation” by not littering? The hard core religious were immediately on my case that we need to “love the creator and not the creation.” Still doesn’t make sense to me 
Like, could you “love” an author while holding a book burning party of their works? I don’t think so.
