One America News might have to shut down because of DirecTVâs decision to drop the right-wing network from its channel lineup, OAN said in a lawsuit against DirecTV and its owner AT&T.
âAs a result of the conduct of AT&T, AT&T Services, DirecTV, and Kennard, OAN and AWE might be forced off the air because Herring will no longer be able to broadcast OAN and AWE via DirecTV and Herring presently has limited alternative carriage options,â the lawsuit said
One big problem for Herringâs lawsuit is that AT&T didnât break a carriage contractâit just decided not to sign a new one after the current deal expires. But Herring has a separate advertising deal with AT&T subsidiary Xandr that runs until July 2024 and claims it âreasonablyâ viewed this deal as âproofâ that the carriage agreement would be renewed:

Every news outlet from FOX to CNN to The New York Times to local newspapers has a story with attention-grabbing headlines like âUS cities hit all-time murder records.â Fox News and Republicans have jumped on this and framed it as a âDemocratâ problem.
There is a measure of truth to these stories. The US saw an alarming 30% increase in murder in 2020âŠSome âblueâ cities, like Chicago, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, have seen real and persistent increases in homicides. These citiesâalong with others like Los Angeles, New York, and Minneapolisâare also in places with wall-to-wall media coverage and national media interest.
But there is a large piece of the homicide story that is missing and calls into question the veracity of the right-wing obsession over homicides in Democratic cities: murder rates are far higher in Trump-voting red states than Biden-voting blue states. And sometimes, murder rates are highest in cities with Republican mayors.
