How is this asshole still a thing? In case you donât remember this asshole is the one credited with âprovingâ austerity would work for the Great Recession providing an academic fig leaf for the assholes who immisterated billions, destroyed the social contract for a generation, and stoked the rise of fascism across the world.
His initial paper was sketchy as fuck to me, a non-economist, as he characterised some data points (eg New Zealand recessions) at variance with other commentators and cherry picked. He also hid the data part for years.
It turned out to have a basic error which turned his weak correlation into a stronger negative correlation.
And yet here he is being wheeled out as an expert yet again.

People like Rogoff exist not to eliminate Public debt but rather to protect the entities that hold debt so it can be used to generate wealth for investors and shareholders.
If you could eliminate the debts of ordinary folks (eg: student loan forgiveness) they could achieve some level of savings and security, but assholes canât allow the proles to have either of those things.
The Pandemic showed that dipshits like Rogoff were wrong all along and that government could spend truckloads of cash without the sky falling down around us. Thankfully MMT is gaining more and more attention:
