This reminds me of something I noticed in the artistsā bios for the most recent opera. I realize that the artists themselves create their bios, but there is an editor who could suggest changes before publication. Anyway, all of the opera singers put where they were from in their first sentence, which means you get a lot of āAmerican mezzo sopranoā or āAmerican tenorā, but then also the countries of origin for singers from around the world. In that context, having one of the singers listed as āa soprano from Puerto Ricoā struck me as very backward. It made it seem like PR was a foreign country. Why not āan American singer born in Puerto Ricoā?
