The juggalos, class struggle, and the left

“…and the party disappeared after 1838.”

You see what happens when you mess with the Freemasons…

I thought the popularity and significance of ICP had decayed significantly with the whole Christianity thing (“Thy Unveiling”) ? I guess not.

I’m also going to link to that bit in Homestuck where the ICP becomes Presidents of the USA. Possibly the best thing to come out of Homestuck. (Click the “Show Pesterlog” button.)

Sorry! We got power back, but still no internets at home. I might have time tomorrow to make a comment, but it depends on how much work I need to get done!

While not quite as cool (cuz it’s for-profit) an old homie of mine has worked at Carnival of Horrors for like, eons. She also does rigging throughout the year at Blossom.

Yeah, some of the guys running Carnival of Horrors started out as students at Bloodview. They do a good job.
Our group, The L.o.T. (the real full name is The Legion of Terror, but “terror” has, um, more negative connotations nowadays so we don’t use it much), has been the training grounds for lots of people who went on to paying gigs in haunt and horror-related fields. We’ve had 3 contestants on FaceOff so far, a handful are doing movie work, and probably a few dozen run haunts around the country.

Good gig! And funny, one of our (inactive) members does rigging at House of Blues. Lots of crossover in the entertainment fields here.

This post on reddit about the Juggalos provides an interesting perspective on why they’re making themselves defenders of anti-fascist demonstrators. Read the whole thing, but here’s a pull quote:

On some level, the spectacle this article is about is one way of recognizing that lie [Paul Ryan’s statement that “In our country, the condition of your birth does not determine the outcome of your life.”] for what it is, and refusing to buy into it. It’s a way of saying “fuck you” to an entire political economy that tells you being born into the wrong family, neighborhood, city, or region and then finding yourself under an avalanche of destructive problems is your fault. It’s a way for some people to refuse to be made to feel ashamed for being who they are. And to throw a big messy party while doing so.
