Also, his behavior and demeanor toward her has MRA and PUA forums written all over it.
As i mentioned, there is debate and disagreement as to how this applies to human behavior, but not as to whether or not it exists. I see little difference in my interprettion of disinhibition and your description of allowing characteristics usually dormant to come to the fore. In fact, that’s pretty much what I said. You have learned that perhaps your snarkiness is not always best received, but when your blood sugar drops this usually dormant characteristic comes out. Q.E.D.
You know how I know this guy is garbage (ETA: before he even opened his mouth)? He has metal spike collars on his dogs. One of them a a fucking Weimaraner. Every Weimaraner I have ever met has been the biggest baby/gentlest dog. They don’t need a spike collar to control.
Beagle can get rambunctious, but again, don’t need a collar like that. I dare say you don’t need a collar like that for any dog, but definitely not a small beagle or a Weimaraner.
It wasn’t the racist ranting that tipped you off?
Good catch about those collars, I hadn’t even noticed them. What a jerk.
I’m put in mind of this, a few months ago. I was out cycling in Port Imperial, NJ, northbound on a 4 lane road, and I had a southbound driver tap his horn a few times and then heartily extend his middle finger out the window once he had my attention. We did not at any point come within 35 feet of each other. I’d also note he needed to take both hands off the steering wheel grips to do this.
Well, I hope you’ve learned not to cycle so offensively. /s
Completely missed that. This asshole doesn’t deserve to have pets.
Spilling-shmilling, who better to say whether that
little bit of liquid belongs in your beard or on your
shirt. I say the liquid itself decides!
Stay strong, never give up.
I briefly, before withdrawing, commented something snarky about boingboing’s propensity for schadenfreude in shaming white male jerks, but it was before I watched the video. I think I was reacting to what I saw as an assumption of racism - which is a very serious charge - because the guy said “asian haired girl”. I would guess he was referring to straight bangs and wasn’t being racist - but rather clumsily and hipsterphobically describing to her trendy haircut.
But now that I’ve seen the video and how clearly douchebaggy he is, it could be true, however I still think it is likely he was just badly describing her haircut.
While he is clearly a royal asshat, the title of this article misquotes him.
It’s ok. We all do dumb things from time to time. The important thing is you are owning up to it, and are I presume going to try to be better in the future.
Welp I looked a little further into it, and the person he was yelling at is actually Asian - so I guess he wasn’t just badly describing her hair.
I hate that I get drawn into these stories and play contrarian - gotta examine why I’m doing that.
Also, these types of conflicts really capture attention - I wish my attention was as easily captured by more uplifting stories. Part of human nature I guess.
Dang.
I will try to do better in the future, but it’s really not ok. I don’t know why I am so hard on boingboing stories and so contrarian here in particular. It’s embarrassing - boingboing is my favorite blog and I’ve gotten into this strange habit of being very critical of posts on here. Been thinking about it really hard and honestly it’s probably because my career isn’t great right now and boingboing contributers have my dream job. - sour grapes.
Zilch. Don’t care why he was a belligerent racist misogynistic asshole. Those goalposts stay put.
So you want to know why he did something for which there’s absolutely no justification?
Women are unreliable witnesses, apparently; even when we have video evidence.
So much for your Amber Ruffin gif… (Good riddance, too)
No big deal; I’d prefer not to have to use it so often.
It would be nice if, you know, people could just believe the tangible evidence that they are presented with, instead of perpetually looking for any possible way to deny the truth.
Seriously.
Seems to me that there is precious little sympathy for the victim here. The dogs got more.
Yeah, someone I know is in prison for murder after getting into a knife fight while drunk. I’ve been on the other end of a climbing rope from him when he was sober so literally trusting him with my life, but everybody knew to steer well clear once he started drinking. Nobody I know who knows him believes him guilty of actual murder (vs manslaughter) the other guy had the knife and started the fight but he pleaded guilty from remorse in the cold sober light of day.
The things that people do while drunk have the same real-world consequences as the things people do while sober. And that is as it should be. For a long time, alcohol has been used to excuse racist or sexist behavior. Not to sound like a prohibitionist, but if sobriety is the only thing preventing you from being an asshole, then don’t drink so much.
Rather, no one is making them drink.
