The Minnesotan left-wing economic miracle continues, while neighboring Republican states slowly collapse

I hopped in, strolled along for a bit, noticed the usual suspects dropping obviously totally randomly selected observations about areas with mostly Aryan stock being superior than those where there were others not of the Master Race, and then decided to skip to the bottom just to say WTF.

Derisive term for white people, a replacement for cracker. I’ve seen it
used in the gizmodo network and on alternet.

goodbye is a word we don’t do well with. Go with that as often as not, won’t steer you wrong.

I saw a great line on the highway the other day. “Hate Socialism? Then GET OFF THE ROAD!”

Mostly just being a nitpicking pedant, actually.

Hitler wasn’t a vegetarian, the Nazis were not atheists, Mussolini was an incompetent thug. Etc.

That’s something I didn’t really understand until I read Margaret Atwood’s statement "Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them.”

Not much stings us white guys because we’re not usually in a position to take an insult as a potential threat.

Or “no”.

Congratulations on having the character to admit it, unusual around these parts where nitpicking pedantry often becomes a bloodsport.

Touche!

I would say I saw overt racism/xenophobia from the folks you describe, but I saw subtle and subconcious micro aggressions from the 20somethings I knew. Literally had to explain to a co-worker the difference between China and Japan once, she was late 20s. And I heard people use racial epithets I hadn’t heard outside of movies, just in casual conversation. (Looking at you Lethbridge.) I left in 2001 tho. I hear its a very different place now.

Also, “racist.” It seems that calling someone a racist is just going too far, no matter what racist things they’re doing, saying, or defending.

I’ve noticed the same thing for antisemitism. My “favorite” (as a matter of hyperbole) was someone saying to me that Judaism is just a religion and has no ethnic component… right before telling me that I “look Jewish”. When I told them that they’re being antisemitic, they said that they couldn’t be antisemitic, and that antisemitism is a lie anyway, to deflect from criticism of Israel. Interestingly, that person was an avowed liberal leftist, so I got the very clear message that they’d speak up for any oppressed minority… except Jews.

Yeah, I’m sure the whole recent wave of terrorism against Jewish people in the US is just an expression of displeasure at the policies of the Israeli government.
