The morning after the Brexit vote, Nigel Farage admits money for the NHS was a lie

Come again on that one? Is London leaving the UK?

Possibly. Londoners voted heavily in favour of staying in the EU and are not happy about the prospect of leaving.

There’s a petition for it. It’s not as popular as the “have a second Referendum” one but probably more likely to succeed.

What next? Canberra joining New Zealand?

Oh this is so funny. What country would the queen be in? Would she have to retreat to her place in Scotland?

Wrong.

Farage was never part of the official Leave campaign, and it was they who made the claim. He’s only responsible for his own crazy rantings, not those of Leave.

Couldn’t a shift in public opinion off the back of this empower other politicians to ignore the referendum, given that it’s non binding?

Also, that still makes him more honest than I personally, and likely others, thought, since a lot of politicians will keep up the charade indefinitely to make themselves look good.

It’s a pretty shitty comment on a person when he tacitly admits that his idea of “honesty” is “doesn’t lie 100% of the time”.

Not sure how you read the comment, but I read it as “The political class are such lying scumbags most of the time that I was surprised that this one admitted his lie at some point” rather than “I’m so dishonest that I think he’s honest because he admitted he lied once”.

Think that’s bad?

Watch BBC Newnight’s Evan Davies versus Douglas Carswell (very much a member of the Vote Leave command). Evan can barely believe what he’s hearing as Carswell rows back on the promise over immigration:

That’s Daniel Hannan MEP

Not if Scotland decides to leave the UK too!

Kate can stay in my spare room if she promises to share her amazing hats, though.

You’re repeating yourself.

On another note, why do liars continually run for office and why do we keep electing these lying politicians?

The previous conservative Australian PM had “(only) carefully prepared, scripted remarks” could be taken to be true. Everything else was fair game.

And, as with “non-core promise”, it was a distinction that was only defined in hindsight.

Because the wrong liar might get in.

(thanks Douglas)

That’s OK Nige, my vote was a lie also - I’ve taken it back.

I suppose it depends on if “London” means the 1 square mile of the City, in which case I imagine she’d have to move into the Tower to reign over a city-state of London, since Buckingham Palace is in Westminster, right?

Huh. It kinda belatedly occurs to me to wonder how she feels about the common citizenry kicking her kingdom out of the EU (and possibly breaking up the UK in the process).

Won’t somebody please think of Her Majesty’s feelings?!

Allegedly.

Heh.

“You say goodbye… I say helloooooooo!”

You’d think a German married to a Greek living between England and Scotland would be more in favour of the EU, wouldn’t you?

Maybe we can have the whole family shipped back to Hanover?

I think our Liz will be slightly more concerned about the break-up of her kingdom this week. I’d like to be a fly on the wall at her next meeting with Dave, I guess that would be the exit interview…
