Probably best not to pose for photos for Reuters while pointing weapons at federal agents if you’re concerned about your privacy or legal entanglements, too.
If the only thing that comes out of this whole dumb series of events is that the photos of rifle-wielding scumbag, Eric Parker, of central Idaho, help put him behind bars where he belongs, it will be a net win for society.
In case you missed it, the Stormfront guys were very excited to turn out for Nevada. Pretend to be blissfully unaware of the large scale overlap between sovereign citizen movement, white nationalists, the christian identity movement, and other militia movements, but the rest of us know exactly what these far right guys are up to - they actually aren’t shy about displaying their racism and conspiracy theories about Zionist banker world domination.
The marines have or have had a specialized language for everything,
Not stairs, but ladder.
Not floor, but deck.
Not wall, but bulkhead.
Not toilet, but head
Not gun but rifle.
Some of this makes sense on a ship, (the guns of a ship are considerably larger than a rifle) but it’s meant more to strengthen esprit d’corps and differentiate marines from soldiers–aka the army.
Although the long gun is almost certainly a rifle, there’s no need to insist upon it outside of the usmc context.
He doesn’t have any sense of history or imagination. To him if a civil war were to start he would be a super hero reliving his 12 year old fantasies and hoping someone would get a pic and post in on Facebook.
Except there’s no such thing as squatter’s rights.
Cars aren’t normally used as weapons and there isn’t a huge lobby with so much leverage as the NRA demanding people the right to use cars as a weapon.
Aw, crap. I wasn’t aware of that aspect. I should let my dad know that; he honestly thinks it’s a bunch of Tea Party patriots pissed off at the government. He might change his tune if he saw some of those Stormfront posts.
Heck, I’m going to change my tune a little. Sorry, guys, I wasn’t aware of the group being led by a white supremacist.
I still don’t get where people are going with getting pissed that the Feds are standing down while local PDs gun down people who aim guns at them. Or rather, I do, but I’m pointing out that those are different law enforcement agencies, and they come across as wanting blood for blood tbh.
EDIT: I think I clicked on a clicky thing somewhere and now it looks like I was replying to rattypilgrim even though I wasn’t. Dang.
What the hell did I just read, and why is Lemmy Kilmister a zombie in it?
Note: as I understand it, there is actually a variation of “squatter’s rights” in parts of the west. If you can squat on private land for several years that isn’t being used, without being detected by the owner, AND can show some “improvement” on the land (whatever that means), then you can legally claim it as your own. It seems to be some kind of check on large landowners who buy up huge tracts and don’t actually use them. I don’t know if this applies to public land.
This is my Pedant
This is my Troll
One is a dullard
One is just droll.
Federal Land which belongs to the taxpayers so squatter’s rights wouldn’t even come into the picture.
Utter twaddle. They got away with it for the time being because the crazy gun nuts outnumbered the feds. But it isn’t over yet.
A camera is a very effective tool in these circumstances. take pictures of the nuts, of their car license plates and arrest them quietly when they get back home. I would have no trouble with use of deadly force against the idiots. They are threatening to murder federal agents for doing their jobs. If they get a slotting thats fine.
What this episode is doing is to give the lie to the NRA propaganda. This situation can’t be tolerated. If the NRA members point their guns at federal law enforcement its time to take the guns away - period.
Bundy can’t sell his cattle. And those NRA bullies waving their guns around can’t stay there forever. In the meantime they present a perfect case for gun control.
Let the gun wankers fire first then send in the drones.
Or plant landmines. Use the land to train SWAT and bomb disposal techs. “Caution: Live Ordinance. Do Not Enter”
Or open the land to hunting. Issue cattle hunting permits at a reasonable fee…
Or issue exclusive grazing rights to somebody who actually pays their bills. “Your cows? They’re on my land- Look, here’s my lease. Now get out before I stand my ground.”
It’s a long story, but imagine D+D crossed with Fallout multiplied by Auto Wars.
Lemmy plays guitar on a sound system pulled by a semi, he was rescued about the same time that we picked up Bill Murray and his proton pack.
Boy, writing it out makes it sound weird.
No, pride.
I want to see this punk go down for ten years in the big house.
If I was running that operation I would have agents mingling with the crowd taking photos. And then anyone carrying a weapon would get charged with armed sedition.
Anyone who takes up arms against the federal government over a bunch of moo-cows is an idiot.
You must be mistaking this place for Reuters. It’s a big news agency based in Times Square that actually publishes news and photos. One of the interesting things they do as a news agency is get written releases from their subjects. Such as a name, phone number, and permission to print an image.
So, you might say that it was Eric Parker who allowed his face and home state to be published. And it seems like he’s the one starting things with law enforcement. You might want to take up the details with him, but I understand he’s a little quick to reach for his guns.
Also, what I was trying to get at earlier is that it doesn’t look to me like that’s really a good firing position, so I think he’s pretty much posing for publicity.
Oh yes, let’s blame the Jews.
Not per se, but there is “adverse possession”, where “if a person uses another person’s land for a long time without being challenged by the owner, the land belongs to the person ‘most attached to its use.’”
I’m not saying that necessarily applies here, but it is a thing.
