In this marketing machine, there is no Mom Rock. However, the rest of the NOW catalog is aimed at all women - including and especially moms who wants to be “hip.” Yes, I know that word isn’t fashionable anymore.
So basically “dad rock” is just a bunch of top 40 pop, rock, and alternative songs from the late 70s though the early aughts?
The box set equivalent of one of those local radio stations with a name like “Bob 101” that just plays whatever?
What a stupid fake genre.
I’m just worried that they seem to have removed 2-4-6-8 Motorway from the dad rock catalogue. Is Tom Robinson too obviously gay for dad rock now?
It’s basically rock music that doesn’t appeal to the current generation of kids, according to the marketing executives at big record labels. It started off as fake, but it’s been around long enough to become real.
firstly, Gen-Xers will know this has been done before:
secondly:
and thirdly, i know and like probably all the music on that list, and y’all can get offa my damn lawn.
May I nominate
Most of my other choices would be stretching the definition of rock well beyond breaking point.
Oh wow… Squeeze… I haven’t thought about them since the 80s! I loved “Hourglass” ~ many happy memories of that song.
I don’t know if popular is the correct word (although I love me some 90’s dance music, so I’m totally down with it).
Needs some Thomas Dolby “She blinded me with Science” to truly be “Dad rock” of this era.
TFW when a “Dad Rock” album includes way too many songs too recent for you to recognize and you wonder if there’s such a thing as “Grandfather Rock” and how did I get so old?
Stone Roses in with the rest of that garbage? Yeah no
To be fair, I think people have been doing that since Sister Rosette Tharpe strapped on a guitar and began rocking out. People took her recipe and bent it six ways to Sunday since the 50s… At this point, I’m not sure we can think of “rock” as a genre of music but more of an attitude towards what the intention of music should be? If that makes sense? It probably doesn’t!
I couldn’t agree more. Boring Cartoons are boring.
Is rock’n’roll boomer’s soundtrack? I mean, the style is almost 70 years old.
I did lose my mixtape cassettes back in the 90’s.
Looks like some other tasteless prick found them.
