The one where my wife asks "when a man grows a beard like that, does he think it looks good?"

Maybe we’re just coming at this from the wrong angle…

Beard or no beard…but never stubble. At least, if you want to be kissed passionately. Women don’t usually like looking as if they’ve scrubbed their face with sandpaper.

I had a goatee and close-cropped hair when I was much younger. As I got older, I preferred the clean shaven feeling. Recently my wife convinced me to take a couple weeks off from shaving. Now I have a complete five millimeter beard (just long enough not to itch and to be brush-able). I even bought a beard trimmer. I have to admit, it looks damn good on middle-aged me and I do enjoy the compliments. Plus shaving my neck is much faster than my whole face. We’ll see how long I like it.

Or alternately again…

And the chest hair, and this black and chrome leather strap harness that shows it off so well… See, straight!

Wanna know why some guys will never give up their beards? Well, let Rowan Atkinson show you why:

When I put up that “Free Microdermabrasion” sign, they were lined up around the block.

Welcome to the hairy side. What’s not been brought up is how useful a beard is to camouflage either too little or too many chins. It’s like plastic surgery! Been 20.5 years since I was clean shaven, and that was for my wedding. Funny thread on a machinists site where someone asked if anyone used a straight razor, and there was a flood of responses asking “what is this shaving of which you speak?”

Pro tip: if you have a beard it’s really not necessary to actually shave your neck, a pass with the electric clipper will do just fine, it’ll look shaved by comparison.

Actually, while I do like that I spend less time on it, shaving is one of my indulgences. I do use a DE safety razor, lather up my own soap in a shaving bowl, and have a couple of luxurious shaving brushes. That I get to use them so little is really the only regret I have with the beard. Going over it with the guarded trimmer is certainly more efficient, but less fun. Still, I’m finding I’m enjoying the beard. Time will tell if it’s a fling or the real thing

A well rounded man embraces both sides of his personality.

I cut down trees, I skip and jump
I like to press wild flow’rs
I put on women’s clothing
And hang around in bars

Feel not the need to shave your beard, friend. But also, expect not your wife to shave her legs either. -Aeschylus 416 BC

Nothing wrong with that.

He doesn’t and I don’t and we’re quite fine with it.

I do shave my underarms but he wouldn’t freak out if I stopped.

More like a “There, I fixed it!” tip than a pro tip…

How about if you grow a beard, but also shave your own legs?

I do a lot of skiing in the winter, so I generally shave my beard for the winter months and have a Van Dyke for the rest of the year. If I keep the beard during the winter, it tends to get icy and cling to my facemask, and that’s never pleasant.
