I am wondering about this, because if anything the NOI has been very quiet in recent years and also more tolerant in some ways. They are less radicalized these days, not more.
My sense is that this is merely the platform he happened to springboard off of, just as people become radicalized while belonging to other religions as well.
Conspiracy theories are today’s folk tales and they bring a sense of commonality to their believers/fans. It’s why they persist, they produce their own culture. If anything, conspiracy theories demonstrate that without a common folk culture to draw upon people either latch onto whatever passes for one or consume the many facsimiles that capitalism produces (ex. MCU, comics, novel series).
