Seems to me that this would be pretty much the opposite of the experience of rowing a boat? I mean, the point is (mostly) to keep water outside of the boat, right? I guess this is more of an ‘incompetent deckhand bailing a sinking ship simulator’, though that’s possibly even less appealing for marketers?

My thoughts exactly. When I used to be a rowing coach, I often warned new crew that the sport involves a lot of water. However if you keep splashing each other, you’re doing it wrong.
