Can someone explain what the point of the skateboard is? Why not just jump off the side of the bridge at this point?

Because it looks cool. Because he thinks it would be fun. Literally for the lols/cool factor/sensation.
Functionally, jumping off the side of the bridge is exactly the same. I really wish that he would have leashed the skateboard, so it didn’t land separately from him.
