Velvet Morning used to be the name of the shoegaze show at the local college station (WRAS):

They always played… maybe it was a version by Slowdive or Thin White Rope?.. as the intro song.

More dead video links.

Come on guys. Why do you post this stuff if it’s half life isn’t gonna last an hour?

It’s like if 80’s Leonard Cohen wrote muzak for 60’s K-Mart.

It’s not a dead link. Click the link in the video embed and it will play on YouTube. We obviously have no control if people decide to limit the reach of videos once we have posted them.

Local radio plays Some Velvet Morning from time to time. I have to admit to liking the title more than the song.

I like the vibe of the song in the OP. Took me a second to realize where I had heard phaedra mentioned in another song, fwiw.

Lyrics

[Chorus 1]
Phaedra shot it into the back of the newborn, and
Phaedra let it fall to the Earth like the billions
Phaedra, this apathy

[Chorus 2]
Phaedra slipped into the gruel of the avians
Phaedra let it all come to pass
Phaedra let it all come to pass
The thought of mortality dormant in me, oh

[Chorus 3]
Phaedra slipped into the gruel of the avians
Thought of mortality dormant in me, oh
Phaedra let it all come to pass
Phaedra let it all come to pass

[Bridge]
I let it mean a lot less, and I
I let my vision vignette, and I
Old handsome death, his quiet house
Where there’s nothing left to see
No God, no dawn, no need
The thought of mortality dormant in me, oh

[Chorus 4]
Phaedra, it is you that I owe all my lackluster
The thought of dying is dormant in me, oh
Phaedra, it is you that made me
Phaedra, it is you that made me want to kill myself
Phaedra, it is you that I owe all my lackluster
Phaedra, this apathy

[Chorus 5]
Phaedra slipped into the gruel of the avians
Phaedra let it fall to the Earth like the billions
Phaedra let it all come to pass

[Chorus 6]
The thought of mortality dormant in me, oh
Phaedra, it is you that made me
Phaedra, it is you that made me want to kill myself
Phaedra, it is you that I owe all my lackluster
Phaedra, this apathy

[Chorus 7]
Phaedra slipped into the gruel of the avians
Phaedra let it fall to the Earth like the billions
Phaedra let it all come to

Somewhat related: Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand) and Clara Luciani released a pretty fun French/English version of “Summer Wine” the other day.

I was able to watch it on youtube. I lost brain cells, because it is a very bad song, but I was able to watch it.

Lydia Lunch. Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time.

Plus, you can play it at 1.75x speed, which hugely improves it. (2x is too fast.)

Also improved at 1.75x

Thin White Rope is how I first learned about this song.

Primal Scream does a nice version of it, with Kate Moss on duet vocals. It sounds a lot more cohesive and with an air of mystery.

What? That’s the first time I’ve seen USA/Mexico geoblocking in reverse!

ETA: OK, changed to US, and threw another one in.

I still can’t see them! Weird! I also can’t find a decent version on the youtubes of it after looking for 30 seconds.

That’s interesting, typically I’m the one who can’t pull up stuff due to geoblocking. I wonder if it’s because it’s a band from Scotland (part of the UK)?

This is where I first heard the name:

What would one expect from a version recorded 40 years later by Hazlewood himself? Probably not this:
