This #PEANUTSBBQ t-shirt shows Marcie of 'The Peanuts' gang as the BBQ snitch

That’s so unfair to Marcie; she was quiet but cool.

Is that a phone or is she vaping something?

Damn Marcie, that’s just wrong.

What’s the expiration date on this joke?

Yeah, it really feels more like a Lucy move.

Marcie was always tolerant. This is character assassination.

srsly.

I can see Lucy doing it but not Marcie.

Right?

Lucy was the known hater in that whole bunch…

This is honestly not quite up there with bootleg Simpsons incest drawings, but it’s still mildly irritating all the same to see Marcy used to make this point (to me, anyway). Like: Would it have been so hard to find the appropriate cartoon villainess for this gag?

I’m not even sure why referencing Peanuts makes this funnier? To the best of my knowledge the BBQ Snitch’s name is still unknown and is not Marcy. Hopefully, there’s some cultural thing I am missing out on that makes this smart. I just don’t get it.

Also, given that they chose to use Peanuts for this joke wouldn’t it make more sense if one of the three black kids was Franklin? Or did he sport different haircuts during the run of that strip?

So Marcie gets picked on because she’s quiet and weird, while Lucy the bitter proto-sociopath gets a pass? Hell to the no.

Sorry, I know I’m piling on, but damn this is the wrong choice for what could have been a sound idea.

Violet would have been a much better choice - she was the original mean judgmental girl in the comic.

Whose suppose to wear this without arosing some undesirable conversation?

I agree, sir.

My best guess is that they used Marcie because she wears glasses, thus was the easiest to make resemble “racist phone lady in sunglasses” by simply coloring in the lenses.

So the choice of which character to depict on the phone was borne of pure laziness. The same kind of laziness that drove the artist to just recolor a few of the children from this dancing scene rather than actually use an existing black character like Franklin (you can see that the “black kids” are clearly just Violet Gray and two other minor characters from the Charlie Brown Christmas Special but painted brown).

Basically someone just spent two minutes recoloring characters in photoshop instead of trying to create original artwork that made more sense.

this is not clever or insightful and unworthy of attention

This sucks, really really sucks. BB is better than this, some self reflection is in order.

Agreed; they could’ve paid homage to the Peanuts, and still done their own design that makes a strong message.

This was just ‘quick and dirty’ laziness, which is fine for jokes on a forum, but not for an actual product one is selling.
