True.
But if vegans started doing some newsworthy things other than ranting in public places maybe the posts to the effect that “i love eatin meat hurr durr” would be diluted among others.

Uhhmmmm, bacon…
Vegans are mentioned in the news only to point out how extreme or stupid they are. It’s a very common prejudice that is openly engaged in. When was the last time you saw a headline that said “vegan wins Nobel prize” or “vegan wins gold medal at the Olympics” or “vegan pulls kitten out of burning building”? Yeah, exactly. The fact of being a vegan is only mentioned if it can be used to further highlight how wrong or bad or strange the person is.
I don’t think veal comes from baby male dairy cows. The dairy breeds produce large volumes of milk, and are either don’t bulk up enough or just aren’t as tasty. Had to google capons, but same deal. Males of the egg laying variety of chickens aren’t good for raising and eating. They just grind them up as chicks and sell it all for who knows what.
Yes it is someone’s job to check the the gender of chicks and send them to the grinder or the lot to grow up a bit before its laying time.
Eat meat, don’t eat meat, whatever. But the process today is rather brutal.
I agree.
But veal was (maybe not anymore) a side effect of the dairy industry, cows don’t give milk unless they’ve had a baby, I have no idea if they were male or female, probably both tbh. Capons I can still order at my butchers, so someone is still de-combing baby roosters, somewhere.
Wikipedia mentions that there’s such a thing as dairy beef, as well, as a use for male dairy cows. I suppose there’s a small percentage that get sold off for stud purposes, as well.
Man, all this talk of beef makes me want to go back to my brother-in-law’s farm in Ireland. He raises Limousin cattle (and treats them quite well, no factory farming there), and they are damn tasty.
Yeah looks like you are right. I was wrong or at least not entirely correct. Also much to my surprise dairy cows do get eaten by people … Burgers.
Hey now, I make a rabbit pie that wins awards!
You’re thinking of some other crazy vegetarian lady who starting crying in a restaurant that the patrons were “eating her little girl”, aka a chicken. A fucking chicken, one of the dumbest animals on the planet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmfRMeU6pQ8
It is great, but not as good as the whitetail deer my uncle shot one year in northern MI. (The NZ venison is redtail deer)
Could be the species, could be the gaminess I liked, but hands down it was better.
Yes! Thank you I knew it was something like that.
You also don’t see headlines like “vegan kills kitten”, “vegan robs six banks”, or “vegan embezzles millions in charity scam.” That’s because it’s irrelevant to the story.
It is relevant when they’re protesting based on vegan values.
Stupid or extreme is just more likely to get in the news, and remembered, than calm and reasonable.
That’s not an anti-vegan bias, that’s just how the news works for everything.
Not sure where you are, but you don’t have to go all the way to Northern Michigan for whitetail deer. They’re all over Indiana, for example.
I would read a news story titled Vegan Robs Six Banks. Cause its gotta be good.
Nope, that is where the family goes for Beer camp. There are various reasons why they make the trip that far, but they mostly live in more southern states like Illinois, Indiana.
Consequently the deer that makes it my way comes from North, and not locally.
I am acutely aware how many deer are by me, because they really, really want to run directly at my car if I take the wrong road home after dusk.
Right. A stunt for the purposes of “activism” and “awareness” should be labeled as such, it was done for media attention in the first place. It’s not as if it wasn’t scripted.

CSB:
A friend of mine is moving into a house which has a neighboring house that’s been abandoned. Two blacktails live and hang out in the neighbors back yard. And of course they are used to humans now, so what could go wrong.
As you might guess, they don’t often shoot any deer.
