Three dead in shooting spree at video game tournament

One can try replacing it with the real thing, perhaps?

Because there’s never been a mass shooting at a military base? There’s been numerous mass shootings at various bases in the past 10 years alone including two separate incidents at Fort Hood.

It looks like the point was solely that military bases are more “hardened” than other venues. (Gated entrances with guard details and such), and that playing whack a mole trying to harden any venue where there has been a shooting is a loosing battle, so I’m not sure what you are arguing against here.

Already happened. Socal Regionals is adding metal detectors at the venue, and that event is coming soon. Evo will be expanding their security for the entire duration instead of just the first day. That’s just off my twitter feed.

That’s generally how it’s done. I’m just cynical about motivations to change and a lack of incentives to depart from ossified grooves. I’m sure at a generational scale, it eventually becomes a moot point.

The good guys with guns must have been taking a day off??

Switzerland is very much not a homogenous society. I mean they can’t even chant the same name when they support their football team. They chant “nati”, short for national team!

Which the go local sports team part of me finds hilarious.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that it is easier to kill someone with a gun than it is to kill someone with a knife.

Exactly. Apparently there is a large overlap of gun nuts and the stereotypical “geographical challenged” USian. The USA, not the only country people want to migrate to - hard to fit in the narrative of exceptionalism.

According to the swiss federal office of statistics the proportion
of population with migrant background in Switzerland is 36%.

That woodchuck is totally not saying what you say it is. It clearly does not make an F with its lips. Shenanigans!

I guess they mean European = white. Which it doesn’t. But even if it did Switz would be an unusually diverse country. Its kind of the point of it.
Nati! NATI!

That’s exactly what the ammosexual in question was implying. He was so desperate to see his precious fetish items remain unregulated that resorting to a hilariously wrong and racist contention was the only way he thought he could explain away the relative lack of constant mass shootings in another country with a strong gun culture.

I wish I had your “nati” example at the time. As it was, I just joked that at least the U.S. had one official language and sent him a link on ethnicity in Switzerland (and, yes, called him out on his racism).

Because the 2 institutional “political parties”, for their own benefit have politicized every problem into an “issue”. So calls for restrictions on gun access, or for gun rights, even those making sense, get shouted down. But this politicization of everything is a worldwide phenomenon not restricted to the USA. So apply your “stupid Americans” trope and apply it to your own country, because you will find the same stupidity there.

Wow, you make it seem so simple! Almost…too simple.

I was mostly thinking of Jack Thompson and dragging videogame companies before the US Congress.

Ah, but when have facts gotten in the way of a good narrative?

There’s that whole cliché of former high school athletes spending the rest of their lives looking back at their time playing sports as a child. It’s a cliché because it’s true, and it is pretty sad.

Swiss correlate to American redneck: “This is Switzerland! Speak French! Or German. Or Italian. Or Romansh…what was my point again?”
