First off I want to know when Disney became this all powerful place. We took our daughter there in the early 90s when she was 9, for one day, and it wasn’t all that magical.
For those suggesting you try and change the man’s behavior by shaming him through his family… Do we really think a man that will hit on or sexually harass a women while at a family park can be shamed somehow into changing that behavior?
How wold that even work? The actor presses Disney charges?
It’s absurd the way they are allowed to operate. The actor should be allowed to respond to any behavior that makes them uncomfortable or violates them and Disney and real authorities should back them up.
This whole forcing people to put up with crap for the almighty dollar has to stop.
Hypothetically if some one was suggesting that the sexual harassment was all in her head and maybe this was all just innocent with no basis for making those claims other than the ability to imagine them… couldn’t that be easily misunderstood as gaslighting sexual harassment victims?
It would sure be unfortunate for one’s unquestionably good intentions to be called into question though. Perish the thought! I was… just asking questions.
Aye; it seems like having SOME negative consequences for antisocial/illegal behavior is far better than having NONE at all, and just glibly hoping that maybe people will do better on their own…
And I didn’t say to ignore it. I’m just wondering if using the offender’s kids is the best way to handle it. And until the Disney actors are empowered to immediately act on harassment I don’t see how it ends.
The problem, on this particular topic, is Disney does not seem to allow the women being harrased to immediately call it out and confront the men with some authority.
How does that get changed?
Also note, my comments in no way mean I’m excusing or condoning the behavior. I agree it should be punished but Disney is enabling it.
Is the phenomenon particularly bad with Tinker Bells or are all the young female Disney characters treated similarly? Are these men acting on a specific impulse or are they just as likely to sexually harass Cruella DeVille?
Seriously? That’s the take you want to go with in this discussion?
It seems like “all costumed performers at Disneyland should be treated with respect and bodily autonomy and be empowered to immediately send away people who don’t abide those guidelines” shouldn’t be that controversial a position.
