Today in transphobia (Part 1)

That could explain the part that’s been puzzling me: the shooter being named with a obviously-‘female’ name and referred to as ‘she’ very consistently. That actually surprised me, but if they’re actually dead-naming HIM, it makes a lot more sense.

Also just goes to show: he really was a man after all. Nothing like committing a crime that 99.9% of the time is committed by men, not women, to prove it.

I think it was the Club Q shooting where the shooter claimed to be non-binary, and that turned out to be BS?

Sadly - this doesn’t smell the same to me. I could be wrong.

Police Chief Drake identified named the suspect as Audrey Elizabeth Hale, 28, a resident of the Nashville area, and referred to the assailant by female pronouns.

“She does identify as transgender,” he said in response to questions.

Whether the suspect identified as a man or woman was not made clear.

I’ve seen two outlets refer to the shooter as trans now, the Guardian and Buzzfeed:

This all jsut got a million times worse… as if it wasn’t just gut-wrenching enough… We know how this is gonna be weaponized now.

The buzzfeed story I just posted said “he/him” pronouns on his linkedin account.

I’ve still got friends and family in the area, including some who have law enforcement connections… and the manifesto pretty much sounds like it’s intended to turn the culture war into a hot war. I’m scared for my trans friends in Nashville.

It certainly does seem all but designed to reinforce Tucker Carlson’s latest bullshit.

Giving in to despair is obviously not an option but I don’t even know how to begin trying to deescalate from this kind of horror in the current political climate. I feel like an Irish citizen in the early stages of The Troubles, and even that might turn out to be too optimistic.

Wouldn’t take much. “The trans are hunting down Christians! We must defend ourselves by completely eliminating them.” Genocide comes closer. God, i hate this timeline!

Well, paradoxically, and probably out of necessity at this point, all my friends are armed in fear of this thing happening, and because they don’t trust police to do the right thing and defend or protect them. So they carry.

As for what I’m doing to help them, I’m donating money to various outreach charities, and a lot of my friends and I in tech have donated money to organizations designed to help LGBTQIA youth and young adults escape from dangerous situations. On a more personal note, I’m offering my friends a crash space here in Portland which is about as far away and safe as you can get from whatever might go down in the next few days.

Those all seem like reasonable measures under the circumstances.

I still wish I could see a path toward deescalation and peaceful coexistence. But that doesn’t work unless you have real good-faith efforts from both sides to make it work, and the fascists clearly aren’t interested in any such thing.

Proud Boys vandalized a church that was planning to host a drag story hour. Not even churches are off-limits to them.

Firebombs <> vandalism. They tried to burn it down. That’s arson.

Were they ever?

My first thought as well. “Bombingham” was a thing, and cannot vanish into the “might make white kids feel bad” hole.

More proof that you can’t just write off an entire state because it mainly elects Republicans:

The disinformation spews from the usual suspects.

Malaysian trolley Ian Miles Cheong who has appeared on Tucker Carlson in the past, is currently promoting a fake manifesto that was originally posted to Kiwi Farms from 4chan, a message-board infamous as a far-Right cesspool.

I guess Andy Ngo didn’t suck up to Elon as much as Ian Miles Cheong.
