Absolutely. There is a difference between the utility of the document and the value of affirmation.
I was pretty happy when I finally got around to amending my birth certificate! Which is one doc I doubt will have the gender marker removed from. But I really don’t need it on my driver’s license or social security records.
Though I understand that in the UK there are different ages to be eligible to collect retirement benefits? Then it would matter.
First thing I got changed was a store card, just to see my name.
My passport is the last document I have to update, but I recently received the official letter for it that says I’m “stable” 
Pensions are indeed given at different ages in the UK, it would indeed matter then.
