WTF is wrong with people?!? How messed up do you have to be to do that?
I donāt know, but mob violence used to be an entertaining day out for the family, and it looks like some assholes are ābringing it back.ā And now whenever any on the BBS whinges about āmobsā on the internet, I think I may point them to this, with a STFU note attachedā¦
Some days I hate humanity.
This is why I am still an ally to some religious groups despite being an atheist.
And recently I learned that BLERFs (Bi-Lesbian Exclusionary Radical Feminists) are a thing. I expect the Venn diagram of BLERFs and TERFs is a circle, and if not it will be soon.
I think it is time to look at Ur-Fascism (PDF link) to compare the list of fascist characteristics with TERFs.
Being anti-anti-trans means being an MRA, because that makes total sense:
The logic of TERF/FARTs, people.
This sums it up beautifully:
Harry Potter fan sites distance themselves from J.K Rowling after ātransphobicā comments
āOur stance is firm: Transgender women are women. Transgender men are men. Non-binary people are non-binary. Intersex people exist and should not be forced to live in the binary. We stand with Harry Potter fans in these communities, and while we donāt condone the mistreatment JKR has received, we must reject her beliefs,ā The Leaky Cauldron said on its website.
When do we know that Pride month is over?
Itās when the UK government thinks itās OK to have a public debate on conversion therapy.
ETA:
TERFS and the BBC are all but publicly claiming that GICs are performing conversion therapy
Thread about this and what the BBC arenāt saying
Iām sure the TERFs will run groups that will get trans people to accept the "truth " that they are actually gay. Iāve been through that experience, that is the real conversion therapy and it nearly killed me when I was in my teens. Thankfully I could choose to stop going, which I did.
ā¦
Thereās more trans rights protests in London today, there are at least a couple of thousand people at Parliament Square.
Not that reality should intrude- but the majority of trans people arenāt straight.
Yes. Iām bi/pan, but what the conversion therapy did for me was undeniably prove that I am not a bi/pan man. Trying just broke me.
Iāve posted previously that, IMHO, human sexuality and sexual identity are better visualized as an amorphous cloudy mass, and no matter how many āboxesā you allow for, the same situation arises: Some fit inside very comfortably, some can be squeezed in with some discomfort and some are nowhere near a box. The only solution (again, IMHO) is to do away with the boxes and just let people be who they are, love who they love and get on with our lives. And yes, I am a man of all the privileges, so probably should comment with great care, but there you go.
Iād say the important thing is to know, and remember, that weāve made the boxes to sort out the complex reality, and not let this tremendously useful mental tool get in the way of dealing fairly and decently with other people (or ourselves!).
Are, to me, two different things, which donāt have to be related.
Accept, pick, change, mix; however people are happy expressing themselves or who they are interacting with consensually is just fine with me.
Agreed, which is why I cited them separately. The ācloudā analogy works for both, though. In trying to be less wordy, I may have been less clear. Apologies.
No, youāre fine, I was trying to add, not edit
I would also point out that gender identity is different to sexual identity.
As for how sexuality and sexual identity are different, on British surveys about sexuality there is often an option for Men who have Sex with Men (MSM). This is not the same as being gay or bi. MSMs might come from communities where being out as gay or bi will get you socially excluded, so they identify as heterosexual.
