Today in transphobia (Part 1)

It sure is creepy being a fantasy because of what you are, not who you are.

Yup, education can’t cure small minded evil. Wish it could.

“Two of the women released had been going blind because they were denied syphilis treatment. ‘We had to rush five people to the emergency room as soon as they got out of the prison on Saturday.’”

A messy article that doesn’t name the “groups” concerned.

“I believe the trans political agenda has encroached on the clinical environment surrounding and within the Gender Identity Development Service,” Evans told the Observer.

There is now an agenda, says the man who used to be in charge, and it involves pushing for transition. :no_mouth:

He was on the board of governors, so he was about 1/15th in charge? (And not specifically in charge of the Gender Identity Service.)

If he’s worried about “highly politicised pro-trans groups” with zero mention of “highly politicised anti-trans groups” then it is probably good he’s not sitting on the board for the trust any more.

Well, let’s blame my mis-characterisation of him on the way he always seems to be titled in the news…

But absolutely, yes, one-sided arguments/viewpoints don’t really help anyone, do they?

His research history suggests he had nothing to do with the Gender Identity Development Service.

At least I hope he hasn’t, otherwise he’s probably got a body count from his bad advice.

Oh it’s the Observer journalist pushing him as more “the governor” instead of “a governor”, definitely.

It’s a good way to sideline the people actually running the clinic, where I’m certain you won’t find anyone pushing for mandatory or immediate transitions.

Pushing? No. Rather more “let’s discuss that at a random later date in the future,” in my experience and that of people I know. Can’t speak for any younger patients, though.

Literally the playbook for all the transphobic talking-points and legislation of the Christian Right Nationalists:

Ringing in a Christian Nationalist 2019 With an Even Larger Legislative Playbook

Dec 18, 2018, 3:53pm Frederick Clarkson

A Christian nationalist coalition, including the Congressional Prayer Caucus Foundation, has published a new state legislative playbook for 2019 that’s 30 percent larger, and 100 percent as committed to a nation that reflects its sectarian values.

It’s important to note that the Prayer Caucus’ particular disdain for transgender people is evident in the proposed “Resolution Establishing Public Policy Favoring Reliance on and Maintenance of Birth Gender” and talking points to “Counter Adding ‘Gender Identity’ as a Civil Rights Category.” In the “Fact Sheet” accompanying the proposed resolution to favor and maintain birth gender, the playbook’s thin scientific basis and strong religious bias become clear. The playbook frequently cites the work of Paul McHugh, disgraced former director of John’s Hopkins University’s Department of Psychiatry. McHugh left the University after decades of denying affirming, comprehensive health care to transgender patients, and has spent his career since continuing to advocate against care for trans people. McHugh was a featured speaker at the 2018 Values Voter Conference sponsored by the Christian Right’s Family Research Council.

That old radical trans agenda… you know, getting basic human rights and access to basic health care and an end to systemic discrimination and all… /s

Not sure whether to be overjoyed that this shit show is finally dead, or outraged that it was a thing in the first place. Maybe both? But I suspect that the "Blitz"ers will come up with a new version toot sweet.

Both.

After suing daughter for transitioning without permission, mom takes case to Supreme Court

Fucking finally.

From what I read, her daughter was emancipated before transitioning.

O_O

Bigotry makes people really fucking stupid; it’s a shame.

Without her permission after she was legally emancipated and no longer needed it. What a total asshat. Emancipation explicitly means exactly that. I hope they spend a shit ton of money on this loser.

And the Thomas Moore Center makes it affordable and possibly profitable.
