I just clicked through to read that jackhole’s entire comments, and discovered he’s basing what he said on what are apparently some numbers right wingers are throwing out there at every one of these hearings: that 80-90% of transgender youth desist or detransition, if denied puberty blockers and other gender affirming care. They’re using this to spread the idea that it’s the gender affirming policies, including both health care treatment and social affirming activities like participation in sports of the self-identifying gender, that are causing young people to think they are transgender. Now, everyone here obviously knows that 80-90% figure is bullshit, but I didn’t know they were claiming that, and I didn’t know where the number came from. It has an interesting origin. It comes from the requirements for a diagnosis of gender identity disorder in children in the old DSM-IV. That was the first time the DSM included a diagnosis for children, and they fucked it up. A self-identity of a gender not matching that assigned at birth was not a requirement. You just had to meet 4 out of 5 criteria, and that was just one of the 5. The others were preference for cross-dressing, preference for playing with toys typically associated with the other sex, preference for playing with children of the opposite sex, and a preference for cross-sex play in make-believe games. In other words, the diagnostic criteria were classifying tomboys and effeminate boys as having gender identity disorder even if they themselves did not identify as such. So it was picking up a ton of children and diagnosing them with gender identity disorder who were not gender dysphoric. This was corrected in DSM-V, but there’s still some old data floating around out there showing that most children diagnosed with gender identity disorder (which doesn’t even exist as a diagnosis under the current DSM) desist if left alone.
When the cases on gender affirming health care reach SCOTUS, it is going to be absolutely critical that the attorneys representing the plaintiffs explain this really, really well, because the states will be throwing these numbers out there to justify laws banning gender affirming health care, and it won’t be enough to just throw out different facts. They’ll need to explain why the 80-90% numbers are completely wrong.

This. There is also the fact (which they like to point out) that kids under 5 who exhibit “cross-sexual tendencies” (playing with toys not c/w assigned sex, preferring clothes not c/w… and etc) will, in over 90% of instances, exhibit cis identity as they mature. This is true, but does not show what they think it does. What this demonstrates is that young kids do not automatically gender toys or clothes, this is an adult weirdness that they learn to adapt to later, and has nothing to do with gender identity. But why would they let facts get in the way of a good story, eh?

There is a genre of porn called ‘sissy hypno’. Often paired with ‘forced feminization’. I think it’s mainly targeted at trans people in denial about their transness, and it’s generally quite misogynistic and gross.

Banks has a long history of anti-LGBTQ+ views. In February 2023, Banks introduced a bill to ban transgender people from serving in the U.S. military. In July 2022, he endorsed a national trans sports ban. Banks supports government retaliation against corporations that publicly oppose anti-LGBTQ+ laws. He was also once banned from Twitter (now X) for misgendering a trans female government official and considers drag queens “deeply disturbing and offensive.”
So, yeah, he’s a Republican. Right on par for these asshats.
