Today in transphobia (Part 2)

Yeah. I came out to my parents when I was 36 or 37. It came as a complete shock to them, and seemed, from their perspective, to be totally out of the blue. But I knew I had felt different since I was 5. When you learn early on that something is supposed to be wrong, you get very good at hiding it.

If I was a teenager now and coming out to my parents, they would absolutely think it was rapid onset and that there was no sign of my having dysphoria before. Never mind the lifetime of refusing to wear girl clothes and wanting a boyish haircut. They would instead have brought up me getting defensive and cranky when I was younger and people (frequently) mistook me for a boy – which was definitely a “doth protest too much” response because I found out pretty quickly that I wasn’t supposed to want to be a boy.

Disregarding the harm they’re causing; there’s a sadness that this is what they’re choosing to dedicate their personal and professional lives too.

One would think that Bailey would have been a cautionary tale about proposing fringe, unsupported conjectures and letting their egos double down with desperate attempts to be edgy with things like fucksaws.

I post this so we remember the name Brianna Ghey, but be warned the article does describe an horrific murder.

Oh, God, and the “they were autistic” trope raises its ugly head again. I hate that shit with a passion. Even if they were, autistic kids are far more likely to be the victim than the offender in an assault situation. These kids are just evil.

… and how frequently she was told or otherwise made very aware that she was wrong about that.

According to a complaint filed by Seattle Children’s Hospital in Travis County on December 7, the office of the attorney general under AG Ken Paxton has demanded that the hospital turn over patient data for transgender patients who traveled or moved from Texas. The demands include “no redaction” and apply to any Texas trans youth. The letter also states that the hospital is required by law to “wean children off of” gender-affirming care if they travel or have moved from Texas. The letter lists several other records-related demands and even threatens Seattle hospital workers with jail time if they do not comply.

I would be sorely tempted, if I were Seattle Children’s Hospital’s attorney, to reply with a formal legal response that actually included the words, “Go fuck yourself.”

From the article:

This case promises to be extraordinarily complex.

No, it really isn’t. Texas doesn’t have jurisdiction. Full stop, end of legal question.

Seattle Children’s Hospital workers and providers for trans patients from Texas could be under legal jeopardy

No, they really aren’t. If Texas filed an extradition request over this, all hell would break loose. This is not how any of this works. The only one involved in this story who should be in jail, because he’s been avoiding his own charges after being indicted years ago, is Ken Paxton. I cannot express strongly enough how much that guy can just fuck off and die mad about this.

I wonder how many other children’s hospitals they’re going on this fishing expedition with that haven’t made a public response.

More concerning, have any of them complied with the request without telling anyone?

Dear Sir,

We act for Mr Arkell who is Retail Credit Manager of Granada TV Rental Ltd. His attention has been drawn to an article appearing in the issue of Private Eye dated 9th April 1971 on page 4. The statements made about Mr Arkell are entirely untrue and clearly highly defamatory. We are therefore instructed to require from you immediately your proposals for dealing with the matter.

Mr Arkell’s first concern is that there should be a full retraction at the earliest possible date in Private Eye and he will also want his costs paid. His attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of your reply.

Yours,

Dear Sirs,

We acknowledge your letter of 29th April referring to Mr. J. Arkell.

We note that Mr Arkell’s attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of our reply and would therefore be grateful if you would inform us what his attitude to damages would be, were he to learn that the nature of our reply is as follows: fuck off.

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/spains-madrid-region-partially-revokes-trans-lgbtq-rights-laws-2023-12-22/

Madrid’s regional assembly on Friday passed a proposal by the Spanish capital’s ruling conservative People’s Party (PP) to strip back protections for transgender people, sparking outcry from the opposition and LGBTQ activists.

The bill, which amended a regional trans rights law and an LGBTQ rights law - both passed in 2016 with the PP’s backing - makes Madrid the first Spanish region to roll back such legislation.

It was approved with 80 votes in favour and 53 against thanks to the absolute majority the PP holds in the chamber. It was also supported by the far-right Vox party, which governs in coalition with the PP in some Spanish cities and regions but not in Madrid.

Under the reform, discriminating against workers on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity is no longer a punishable offence. It is also no longer a punishable offence to beat a person without causing injury on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
