If I know anything about Japan from watching Anime, the smashed toilets are the result of supernatural school age kids battling for the fate of the universe. For even more supernatural reasons when smashed the toilets will suddenly spray a fountain of clean looking water from the drainpipe.
Personally speaking, I prefer camera-free toilet facilities. Security guards and footage reviewers don’t need the extra nosebleeds.
I am kind of surprised that a person or small group of people were purposefully smashing toilets in Japan. I don’t see the sense of it and yeah this being in bathrooms makes it particularly difficult to find the responsible party.
Don’t they have some super-strength Viagra in Japan?

Cameras are mounted near the entry in places like transportation hubs, but without knowing when the damage happened that probably wouldn’t help. Since that’s a less secure area, I hope it’s not a target for other crimes.
My go to emotion when I pee is one of quite contemplation / inner reflection, not toilet slaughter time.
This is one of the reasons I don’t envy urinal users. I’d be looking over my shoulder the entire time.

They could connect a transducer or strain gauge to the urinals, to record the time if a large force is applied to the urinal. Then combine that with the timestamped photos of people entering and leaving.
