Toronto Mayor Rob Ford ticketed, allegedly for public intoxication, in Vancouver

Yes, by all means, let’s decorously look away and busy ourselves with something less objectionable, such as steampunk Legos or something involving a banana, and maybe by the time the next election rolls around, we may have convinced ourselves that Ford is a boisterous but essentially harmless buffoon a la Chris Farley (before his revolving-door-rehab cycle that eventually led to his death) and that Toronto could do worse. Or, you know, we could discuss whether amalgamation was that good of an idea in the first place.

Why discuss amalgamation? Because maybe by the time the next election rolls around we may have convinced ourselves that amalgamation can be undone? If you’re seriously interested in thinking about the future, it would be best to stop thinking about whether amalgamation was a good idea and start thinking about how to make things better in the post-amalgamation state.

Coquitlam is actually 3 or 4 cities away from Vancouver - but for marketing purposes places like The Hard Rock Cafe Vancouver (also not in Vancouver) and the Media, like to say they are.

As for this comment: “it’s amazing how far cops in the suburbs go out of their way to ticket jaywalkers,” That’s true and it’s because people die out in the suburbs when they Jaywalk. At least in Coquitlam they’ve been trying to curb that behaviour.

Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart later wrote a Facebook post that the city had previously “asked Coquitlam RCMP to clamp down a bit on the serious and risky issue of jaywalking.”

“Perhaps visitors from out-of-town might not be aware of that. Sorry, Mayor Ford,” the post said.

Yeah, every time I hear radio spots for “the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver” (there was an actual Hard Rock Cafe Vancouver, it was on West Hastings and shut down years ago) I can’t help but mutter “you mean the fucking Hard Rock Casino Coquitlam.”

And let’s not forget Port Coquitlam. Different again from Coquitlam; both of which make up 2 of the 21 municipalities of Metro Vancouver - just to confuse things.

“Metro Vancouver” - Not a big fan of that title, it just gives rise to confusion like this.
“GVRD” kept the distinctions clearer; should’ve stuck with that one.
