Trailer for Ridley Scott's Napoleon

You mean, Vanessa Kirby is 35, right? Which is only 2 years older than Josephine was when she married Napoleon. Although he was 27.

Now if Marie Louise was played by a 21 year old it would at least be age-ish accurate although he’d still be too old. They were 19 and 40 when they were married. Anna Mawn is 26.

There is a substantial amount of historical research showing that field officer casualty rates are higher than for enlisted men.

Google said Jodie Comer (who is 30) played Josephine but Wikipedia says Vanessa Kirby so I guess you’re probably right.

I got it from IMDB

edit: ah, apparently Jodie Comer was originally going to play Josephine in oct 2021 when it was called Kitbag for Apple+ but she dropped out by Jan 2022 due to a “covid scheduling issue”

I honestly don’t care. i’m sick of living in a society where people who are responsible for death and destruction on a grand scale are glorified. Killing people doesn’t make anyone smart. Smart people find ways not to wipe out entire generations of human being, IMHO. The great man narrative has been highly destructive to pretty much anything positive humanity has built… I think maybe it’s time to abandon it. :woman_shrugging:

Glorfied bully who managed to weasel his way into power. Playing off people’s hatreds and fears isn’t particularly clever.

I would guess that relates to Ælfgifu’ s regency in Norway and after Cnut’s death in England (accused accomplice in the blinding and death of Alfred Ætheling). Is it clearly psychopathic or an attempt to remain in position, against Cnut’s other wife (Emma) and her son, is a difficult question to answer.

George R.R. Martin could write a few chapters based on the lives of Cnut’s wives.

I’d argue that’s the people who are still caping for long dead dictators.
