Star Trek Disco had two such characters.
He has one line:
āIsnāt that a show for girls?ā
Gosh, that movie hit me hard. I was sobbing and nearly yelling at the screen by the end.
Well of course Star Trek would lead the way in such things.
Adira & Gray were regulars for a time. Then Gray started staying on the Trill home world.
They also had a guest star villain.
Disco had the best representation all around in the Trek franchises. Though Strange New Worlds is pretty good too.
Yeah, Iāve seen Discovery, except I havenāt seen the final season. Or final two seasons? I canāt remember. The last episode I saw was the one with Stacey Abrams playing the Federation President. And Iāve only seen the first season of Strange New Worlds. I really need to catch up.
A perfect winter project. After you get settled. Hot chocy & captain hair lift!
Part of the reason I quit watching them is that the Paramount+ app on the PS5 I use to do most of my streaming is just horrible. And the app on my Xfinity cable box isnāt any better. They have so many good shows on P+, and I end up hating watching them because their apps are so bad.
Just buy them on DVD⦠Paramount is one of the streaming cos that still put out physical media.
I just watched it. I thought it was interesting. I definitely wouldnāt describe it as horror. It didnāt resonate emotionally with me all that much. But that could be because my experience of discovery was very different, I think. Like, I can see some connections to what I went through, but it just didnāt hit me like that. I dunno. It also might just be because Iām older. That has some late 90s nostalgia, and thatās not when I grew up. Apparently there were some references to, and cameos by, Pete and Pete? I never saw that show, so that went right over my head.
Youād like it⦠Michael Stipe made an appearanceā¦
But very much a late Gen Xer / early millennial (xillennial?) showā¦
Yeah, Iām closer to Xoomer than Xennial. Iām not a Xoomer, but Iām closer to that end.
This is more than a bit tangential but Poparena, a YT channel thatās supportive of trans rights, talking about them a bit in relation to, for example, an episode of The Fairy Oddparents, has an overview of Pete & Pete as part of a larger history of Nickelodeon.
It sounds like it was a quirky, fun show that got away with a lot by being largely ignored by the network. Iām sorry I missed it because it aired just as I was finishing high school and starting college. Some individual episodes are also talked about in Poparenaās shorter āsample platterā reviews.
Iām basically a Xennial and yeah, it hit hard. The 90s were when I figured out my transness so the vibe echoed how I felt at that time in my life. I really liked it but it kind of messed me up, glad I watched it with my trans support group.
(Apologies for the sub-thread necromancy; I need to pop into this thread more often.)
An NB friend of mine said it best:
āGender is a free form text field.ā
Re: name changes from a LOT of people back in Septemberā¦
While I canāt legally change my name until I get some financial stuff done and dusted (~2031 for that), I sure can pick one out now and get used to it, and Yeah, I picked out a new first and middle name because Iāve had my email address for 20+ years and I donāt feel like changing it. And it feels good when people address me by it, even this early in my transition. (6 months on HRT!)
Laverne Cox gave a great report on The Daily Show:
Thatās a new version of vampirism! Hmmm, have to watch for that. My family is certainly more queer than notā¦
Nice to see some actual support from political candidates. About damn time.
Heās the real deal. Harris was smart to bring him on as the VP candidateā¦
