Truck with oversize load scrapes against overpass

Sorry, I’m not buying it. The truck driver has the responsibility of knowing how tall their cargo is and whether or not it can fit underneath an overpass, and they need to plan for it in advance. Plus the truck driver wasn’t signalling to get into the left lane. They had their 4-ways on, which just means, “I’m going slower than regular traffic.”

So, he cannot maneuver his ungainly truckload in the same way he could a normal car? Arent wide loads like this supposed to be escorted in front and/or behind by scout cars for just this reason?

Concur. That stretch is deceiving. You can safely travel at 120 in traffic up until that point, but then all sorts of transitions occur. As an example of how suddenly busy a driver gets, I have never noticed the big “Whistler” sign before this video. Also, it is a challenge to move from the old slow lane to the new one. The half-fast drivers don’t like it.

The truck was going slow, about 60. The dash cam vehicle slowed down from about 100 at the beginning of the video. The distance compressed quickly. It looked like the truck wanted the HOV lane too (which ended within metres) but that entitled black CUV claimed the space.

Deliveries to the oil patch go the other way. From the seaport eastward. I can’t imagine that truck on the Duffy Lake Road if it went north. But the oil-sands are slow. The tank was maybe coming from there, back to the port.

Edit for brevity

If it was destined for a brewery, I hope they name the beer Headbanger. Or Crew-Cut. Bald-Spot?

And serve it in a too-tallboy.
